Institute of Cemeteries & Crematoria Best Value Charter Assessment Scheme

The IBCA Best Value Charter Assessment Scheme is a well established Scheme designed to assist organisations managing cemetaries and cremetoria (whether in the public or commercial sector) to make improvements to the services provided.
The Scheme is recognised by the Best Value Inspectors as a credible way to assess the service, obtain comparisons with other organisations and to improve the service.
The Scheme involves organisations carrying out a formal assessment of themselves against the Rights and Targets from the IBCA Charter for the Bereaved. The Rights are features of the service that customers (i.e. the bereaved) should expect. The Targets are features of an enhanced service. The organisation carries out the assessment using a comprehensive questionnaire.
As a result of the assessment, the organisation plans improvements in the low scoring areas (with assistance if required). The scores are entered onto a national spreadsheet, and a National Ranking Table and graphical displays of trends and comparisons are produced.
Organisations scoring 100% in the Rights are eligible for Charter Membership. This entitles them to display a Charter Membership to the public.
